Wind Turbine Technician

What they do: Wind turbine technicians build, check and fix the giant wind turbines that turn wind into electricity. Some work on land. Others travel out to sea by boat to look after huge offshore turbines.
Why it matters: Wind power is one of the cleanest ways to make electricity. The UK is a world leaderin offshore wind. We need thousands more technicians to keep these turbinesspinning.
Typical UK pay: Around £25,000 when you start, rising to £45,000 or more with experience. Offshore work often pays the most.
How to get into it:
• Enjoy subjects like Design andTechnology, Physics and Maths at school.
• After GCSEs, you can do a wind turbine technician apprenticeship (usually three to four years). You earn money while you learn.
• You can also do a college course in engineering or renewable energy, then apply to a wind energy company.
