Energy Auditor

What they do: Energy auditors visit homes, schools, offices and factories to find out where energy is being wasted. They use special cameras to spot heat escaping through walls and windows, and they check boilers, lights and machines. Then they write reports showing how to save energy — and money.
Why it matters: Around half of the energy used in the UK is used in buildings. Spotting and fixing waste is the cheapest, fastest way to cut carbon emissions and lower bills.
Typical UK pay: Around £25,000 to start, £35,000 on average, and £45,000–£50,000+ for senior energy auditors and consultants.
How to get into it:
• Useful school subjects: Maths,Physics, Geography and Design and Technology.
• You can take a college course in Building Services Engineering, or do an energy assessor apprenticeship.
• You can also train as a DomesticEnergy Assessor in just a few months — one of the quickest routes into a green career.
