Green Jobs - Green Building Architect

Green Building Architect

What they do: Green building architects design houses, schools and offices that use very little energy and produce hardly any carbon. They choose eco-friendly materials, plan for solar panels and heat pumps, and make sure their buildings work well with the nature around them.

Why it matters: Buildings cause around 40% of the world's carbon emissions. Designing them well from the start saves huge amounts of energy and waste for the next 100 years.

Typical UK pay: Trainee architects earn around £24,000–£28,000. Qualified architects earn£35,000–£50,000, and senior architects £60,000+, especially in London.

How to get into it:

•      Enjoy Art, Maths, Design andTechnology and Physics at school.

•      Becoming an architect usually takes a five-year university course plus two years of work experience.

•      Architecture apprenticeships now exist too, so you can train and work without paying for university.
