Carbon Accountant

What they do: Carbon accountants work out how much carbon a company, school or city is putting into the air. They count emissions from fuel, electricity, deliveries and supplies, then help find ways to cut them.
Why it matters: You can't fix what you can't measure. Carbon accountants give organisations the numbers they need to reach net zero — just as money accountants help with the books.
Typical UK pay: Around £28,000 to start, £40,000–£55,000 with experience, and £70,000+ for senior specialists at big companies.
How to get into it:
• Useful subjects: Maths, Business Studies, Geography and Economics.
• You can take a degree in Accounting, Business, Environmental Science or Sustainability.
• You can also train as an ordinary accountant first and then add a carbon qualification.
