Electric Vehicle (EV) Technician

What they do: EV technicians service and repair electric cars, vans, buses and bikes. They check batteries, fix electric motors, and install charging points on streets and at people's homes.
Why it matters: Petrol and diesel vehicles cause a lot of air pollution and climate change. As more people switch to electric, we need skilled technicians to keep them on the road.
Typical UK pay: Around £22,000 starting, £30,000 on average, and £40,000+ for highly qualified EV specialists.
How to get into it:
• Subjects like Maths, Physics andDesign and Technology are very useful.
• You can do a motor vehicle technician apprenticeship that includes EV training.
• Existing car mechanics can take short courses to add EV skills, so this is a fast-growing area.
