AI and the environment - Local Community Impacts

Rapid data-centre growth can strain local power grids and compete for water in dry regions, prompting careful planning about where and how facilities are built.  Data centres are large buildings and they need to be sited carefully – ideally in places where there are plentiful supplies of water and energy, so that they don’t end up competing with local communities for these essential resources.
