AI and the environment - AI and the Environment

What is AI and why does it affect the environment?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) uses powerful computers to learn from data and make predictions or create new content (like text or images). Training and running (“using”) these systems happens mostly in data centres—large buildings full of servers that need lots of electricity and cooling. As AI grows, so does the number and size of data centres, which affects energy use, water use, materials, and e-waste.
