Net Zero - What takes away greenhouse gases?

Trees help to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

What takes away greenhouse gases?

  • Trees and plants! They breathe in carbon dioxide during the day, like we breathe in oxygen.
  • Special technologies that can capture carbon dioxide from the air and store it safely.  (Carbon capture and storage, or CCS).
  • The ocean absorbs a lot of carbon dioxide - about 30% of all the carbon dioxide humans produce.
  • Using renewable sources of energy, such as solar panels.

These things push down on the opposite side of the see-saw, helping to cool the Earth down.
