What takes away greenhouse gases?
- Trees and plants! They breathe in carbon dioxide during the day, like we breathe in oxygen.
- Special technologies that can capture carbon dioxide from the air and store it safely. (Carbon capture and storage, or CCS).
- The ocean absorbs a lot of carbon dioxide - about 30% of all the carbon dioxide humans produce.
- Using renewable sources of energy, such as solar panels.
These things push down on the opposite side of the see-saw, helping to cool the Earth down.
