In 2020, The Asiatic Wild Ass was 'Near Threatened' but their numbers were stable.

Habitat: Asses live in desert or semi-desert areas, steppeland (grassy plains) and mountainous regions. They prefer hilly areas but will come down into the valleys to avoid dust and snow storms.

Size: Shoulder height - 1.1 - 1.2 m

Weight: 160-260 kg

Life Span: about 28 years

Gestation: 11-12 months (one foal only)

Distribution: Southern and south-western Mongolia
