Young people in school strikes to highlight climate change inaction

Their school strike has been inspired by 16 year-old Greta Thunberg from Sweden, who began a solo protest about climate change outside her country's parliament in August 2018, when she was still 15. Her actions have inspired school strikes by up to 70,000 young people per week in towns and cities across the world. She has since been invited to attend UN climate talks in Katowice, Poland and the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Protests have been planned in at least 60 towns and cities across the UK today in the first co-ordinated school strike over climate change in the UK, with a global day of school strikes due to take place on 15 March.
The protests are strong evidence that many young people are seeing climate change as a real threat to their futures. They are impatient for their national governments to act with greater urgency in response to this growing global crisis.
